Part 3: Taking Action
by Virgo-chan
Not many people had ever enjoyed staying at a jail. Those that were being kept were usually drunks or people sobering up and getting a migraine at the drop of a pin, meaning that those in jail today were being tortured mercilessly.
16 of the 28 Seishi were separated into two groups, males and females. That didn't matter much because they were still pissed. And the problem was that a lot of them, who were pissed at someone, was pissed at the ones that were placed conveniently near their cell.
One of the better groups was glaring at each other from two different cells. Tamahome and Nuriko in one and the former was thinking bad things about Nakago and Suboshi who were watching him with equal venom from across the hall. I'm pretty sure you all know why they hate each other.
Tomo was currently arguing with Yari at whose fault it was cleaving an empty car in half. Yari said that it was the illusionist's feathers. Tomo said it was the masked boy's supersonic attack. Other than that, the two stayed in their own corners of their cell. The really bad problem was between a Genbu and a Byakko Seishi. Kobushi and Hikaze were practically at each other's throats if it wasn't for the bars that separated their cells-which happened to be side by side. Everyone had long forgotten what they were arguing about, but they were pretty sure they knew why they were still at it after three hours of being locked up; Kobushi was just itching for a fight while Hikaze was rapidly growing annoyed with his yammering. It was up to Tokaki to keep the older Byakko Seishi under control while Kobushi's cellmate coward in the opposite corner, frightened by the large mass of a man and his equally large temper.
And finally, for the guys, Tomite and Hikitsu were quietly talking to each other in their cell, much to their neighbors' gratitude. And they found themselves a little too interested in the two Genbu Seishi's conversation due to their close proximity to each other and the much cryptic smiles and whispers past between them.
The girls were doing a lot better than the guys. Mainly because it was the guys that made them angry. Soi, Yumetsu and Subaru were exchanging information of their respective love interests from their separate cells. It was a strange turn of events for Soi, for in this world she and Nakago affiance and ran a very successful nightclub together. However when she regained her memories, she was mortified at Nakago's actions and ended up getting tangled in a series of public destruction that landed her on a cold bunk in her rage. Yumetsu had never fully realized that Hikaze had started the entire slavery deal, nor did she remember his harsh treatment to her in the Shijin Ten Chi Sho. And when her memories came back... well, let's just say that it was a good thing he's got speed or he would in worse shape than Tasuki was after his fight with Tamahome. But both women couldn't decide whether to be disgusted or jealous of Subaru's boyfriend. He may be a major pervert, but he had always been true to his one true love, as she was to him. That's how the two were arrested, someone said something vulgar to Subaru, Tokaki smacked him and she went in to help him fight.
The remaining three girls had a rocky start. The three always were quick with the tongue, not ever thinking before they spoke and launched into several arguments. Finally, after an hour, they managed to set a boundary on which they were never to cross while talking. And so Yuki, Akane and Bakuhatsu teased each other endlessly and generally having a good laugh. Gradually they got some of the other women near them to join in the chatter.
And in short, life was rapidly growing weirder and weirder. Not to mention it was also going to get a lot worse.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Suboshi had long tired from glaring at Tamahome. The side of him that was still Shinji - and sounded a lot like Aniki - said that there was no longer a reason to be upset at the violet-eyed Seishi. So instead, he propped himself on his elbows on the bunk that protruded out of the wall and traced little patterns in the old and dirty blanket. Not to mention he was utterly bored and he was incredibly weary with trying to see what Nakago was doing and being discreet about it. After all, would you let your guard down if you were locked in a jail cell with a homicidal, manipulative, ki-firing maniac?
For some strange reason, he began thinking about his brother, wondering what ever happened to him, if he ever remembered having a brother or of the life he truly lived. A wave of melancholy suffocated him and tears sprang into his velvety blue eyes. Suboshi gritted his teeth and flipped on to his other side, facing the wall. He was not going to break... and definitely not where the two people he hated the most could see.
He felt a hand on his shoulder and stiffened. Slowly the youth turned his head to meet Nakago's glacier gaze. Normally Suboshi would do either of two things: shrink back in fear or bristle under the shogun's eyes. But now he felt an eerie coldness that lashed across his chest and became a sharpened edge in his voice.
"Leave me alone, Nakago." He said quietly with his narrowed eyes betraying no emotion. "You can't control me, I'm no longer your puppet." With that, Suboshi stood to his feet and walked to the back of the cell, watching the scene of daily life unfold from the window above the streets.
The 26 year-old watched the younger walk away, a strange smile on his lips. Inside, though, Nakago was fighting a battle of two almost completely opposite personalities. His reincarnated personality didn't want to be the cold, uncaring murder these people thought he was. He hated the way that watched him with fear and loathing. He tried to tell them before that he had changed, but they didn't - no, the wouldn't - believe him - Not even his own fiancée whom he loved and adored more than anything. It was Nakago who felt something almost akin to pride at Suboshi's sudden change. With all the violence and pain within him, his determination, hidden strength and his passion, the boy could become one of the more powerful Seishi. All Nakago had to do was to force the other to dig deep and find the power inside, the emotional stability and to bring up the walls of cold intelligence and strict patience to replace the previous ones of childish hopes, naivete and innocence.
Yes, the shogun's part of his mind said in a cool voice, just a little while longer and the child will become powerful, strong and merciless.
The other sounded reluctant, sorrowful. Yes, he will become just like you. And then he'll be despised and hunted down. He'll have no one left to love or love him because he betrayed their trust and sent them to their deaths. And when someone finally kills him, all they'll feel when they realize why he did as he had all they'll feel is pity and disgust. Then his life would have meant nothing just like yours did. Is that what you truly want?
Nakago lowered his head and clenched a fist, wishing for anything to stop the hate-filled voice from flowing through his mind. He needed to think to figure out how to stop that malicious side of him to be forgotten once more. But most of all he had to talk to Soi and to get her to believe that he's not what he used to be. Maybe after she understood, she'd 'forgive' him. Both personalities smiled tenderly at that thought, his heart quickened slightly.
He looked around, watching the other men carefully. Nuriko had finally got Tamahome to stop glaring by smacking into the wall. The super-strength Seishi then proceeded in blaming the cracks on the fact that the jail was too old and needed to be renovated. Next to them were Tomo and Yari with the latter talking to another jailbird in the cell next to his. Tomo was on the other side of the cell once more, watching some strange illusion from the Shin he got from Lord knows where.
Tokaki was watching Hikaze perform little tricks with one of the teleporter's earrings and his own wind power. Kobushi finally got tired of Hikaze ignoring him and went to harass his cellmate instead. Hikitsu and Tomite were still sitting side by side on a bunk; the younger curled up next to his 'Ima-kun'. Everyone else ignored them for fear of getting developing diabetes.
Nakago sighed. If only there was some way to get out of here...

As Mitsukake, Keisuke, Amiboshi and Chichiri entered the hospital, a nurse ran up to them.
"You're back, good! I was just about to call you!"
The healer looked at her curiously. "Dou shita no?"
"Another girl came in sick; we put her with the other three. I believe the young man that brought her in said her name was Kaze Taiyo?" The boys were startled.
"Doumo arigato, I'll check on her right now." He turned to Chichiri and Amiboshi and said quietly, "I think you two should go down to the police station and try to talk some sense into the others. If this sickness really has anything to do with the four gods, we should get everyone we can and we won't be able to do anything if they keep arguing. If I need to tell you something, I'll give you a call." He handed the flutist a cell phone. "And if you need to beep me, my pager is on speed dial 3."
"Hai, Mitsukake-san. Let's go, Chichiri-san!" With that, the two sprinted off, heading for the nearest police station.
"Ano, Mitsukake-san, what about me?" The elder Yuuki asked, pointing to himself. (Mit-chan note: I just have the picture of SD Keisuke pointing himself like SD Chichiri...that looks funny 6.^)
The doctor led him to his office, placing a phone book on his desk and pointed at the phone. "You know all the Seishi's new names, don't you?" Keisuke nodded somewhat uncertainly. "Call up any that haven't been arrested and tell them to come here."
"H-hai."
The dark-haired Suzaku Seishi walked out and rubbed his eyes tiredly. The 23 year-old began thinking that he might be getting a little too old for this. He dimly wondered how Nakago, at 26, would be holding up and smiled ruefully. Well, it was back to business for now.

The jailed group was led into a large room, a mirror to one side. Each person was cuffed and they thought it was best not talk to each other so they settled for glaring or ignoring instead. The door closed behind them and the one opposite them opened. In walked a familiar figure.
Tamahome and Nuriko broke out into wide smiles. "Chichiri!"
"Tamahome-kun, Nuriko-kun. Daijobu desu ka?"
The violet haired one nodded. "Hai!" He said in a singsong voice. Tamahome snorted and shifted his glance to two certain people before looking back at the monk.
"Hey, see the monk boy traded his kasa and shakujo for some modern threads!" Tokaki said with a broad grin.
"Tokaki-san," Chichiri greeted, bowing slightly, "it's nice to see you again."
"Don't call me that! you're older than I am now. Say, didn't you used to go 'round sayin' 'no da' and stuff?"
Chichiri smiled and rubbed the back of his neck. It was starting to get a little sore because he was forced to tuck his tail inside the hat. "Amiboshi-kun said it would be better for me not to go around saying it."
His twin looked up sharply. "Aniki? He's here?"
"Hai, and he can't wait to see you again, Suboshi-kun." The Seiryuu Seishi smiled brilliantly, but then it faded and he looked to the floor. "Dou shita, Suboshi-kun?"
"I can't see Aniki... not like this - Not after all that I've done. I know that I'm not the same person now, but all that's happened before was still my actions. Even though I've reborn, I can't escape from the blood on my hands. I don't deserve to see him anymore."
A hand was placed gently on his shoulder. Suboshi expected to see Chichiri looking in his face, but was surprised to see it was Nakago.
"You may feel that you don't deserve him and you may stand by your decision," he said slowly, "but don't hurt your brother because of yourself."
Everyone was speechless. Nakago? Giving advice? Actually giving good advice? Whoa!
"H-hai, arigato, Nakago-san."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The two peered through the one-way glass as those really strange people got to associate with one of their weird-not-in-jail-yet friends - Or kinda friend judging by some of the people's reactions to him. The first one, an officer just about to end his shift turned to the other.
"You sure you'll be able to deal with them, just in case?"
"Feh," the second scoffed, "I'll be fine. Besides, I always got back up!" He held up his walkie-talkie and winked at the first. "Don't worry, everything will be fine."
The other didn't look so convinced at his friend's confidence but turned to walk out. "Ganbatte ne, Genrou, you'll need it."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"So you're saying," Kobushi said slowly, "that the Gods are responsible for our being here and ruining our lives by bringing up old memories and grudges?"
"Da." Chichiri responded with a nod, knowing just how stupid the whole thing sounded. But then again, these were Seishi, they knew to expect the stupidest things to be real.
"You're crazy. You can't honestly expect us to believe that without proof, do you?" Akane snorted.
Then again, he was a Seishi too, he should have expect that they wouldn't believe him. Sigh...
"How do I explain this... the four gods want to take over this world, too. And to do that they had draw a lot of power, which brought back all the deceased Seishi. All four Mikos are sick because the drain is to great on them and Mitsukake and I fear that they might try to consume them to become even stronger."
"That's the stupidest, biggest load of-"
"Shut up, Kobushi." Yari snarled-surprisingly enough the elder Seishi listened to him. He turned his intense green eyes to Chichiri. "I'm not going to take a chance with what he says. I'm not letting anyone take Umi-chan away from me."
Tomite, knowing Yari's feelings for their Miko, gently rubbed the boy's shoulder. "Yari's right. Even if what Chichiri-san says isn't true, it's better to be safe than sorry." He turned to Tamahome and the other Seishi champions. "Until we get rid of the Gods, a truce?" He held his hand out, palm up.
The violet-eyed Seishi looked at the hand. Slowly a grin materialized on his face. "Truce." Three other hands joined Tomite's over the table. Soon after, the rest joined in.
Yuki held her wrists up, the chain hanging low between them. "Now, time to get outta these!"
"Oi, oi! Hold yer horses!" Someone snarled from the doorway. "You people can wait until I get them offa ya!"
Chichiri's heart caught in his throat. He looked above Yumetsu's head and saw Tasuki standing there, twirling a set of keys on one finger and dressed in a police outfit.
"T-Tasuki-kun?"
The akai atama-ed(akai=red atama=head note: the -ed was added by mit-chan: did sounded funny ne~)grinned toothily and sent a wink the monk's way. "Of course! Ya really think you could get rid of me that easily? I've been watchin' you punks since you came in and it's 'bout damn time you finally stopped pissin' at each other!" He explained, unlocking the chains as he went. "Right, now back to the hospital and try not to rough each other up again, ne?"
Nuriko looked at him uncertainly. "Not that I don't mind the easy way out, but how are you going to explain this to your superiors when we go walking through the door?"
His grin broadened. "Who says you're walking through the door? Tokaki and Chichi over there're gonna be giving us a lift to the hospital! And you don't have to worry about Amiboshi, I had him taken care of."
On cue, the door opened once again and in came the flutist, looking around wearily. His eyes landed on his brother and the two broke into huge smiles.
"Aniki!" Cried Suboshi, crushing his brother into a tight hug, afraid to let go.
"It's okay, Shun-chan. I'm here now, everything's going to be okay." Yet he couldn't help the tears of joy from threatening to trickle down his cheeks.
While that happy reunion was going on, Chichiri moved towards Tasuki. "Ne, Tasuki-kun..." amber eyes turned to him and the former couldn't help but flush slightly. "Gomen, demo... I-I still can't believe I finally found you again!"
"Aw, c'mon Chichi, you knew you would. Besides, I'm the one that had to wait twenty years to see you again. You're my friend and no way in hell would distance or death keep us apart." Tasuki squeezed Chichiri's shoulder slightly. "You're an important part of my life now, and there's nothing that's gonna take that away from me. Not even Suzaku himself."
A bright glow interrupted the two. Golden eyes of the transporter slanted towards them. "If you two are done with you're chattering, care to join the rest of us in getting the hell out of here?"
The two nodded and leapt into the portal and Tokaki followed closely behind.
What greeted them was a horrible sight indeed. The hospital was glowing with an eerie light, green ways spilling from the windows and doors, cracks started appearing under the stress of the intense pressure that it strained to keep under check. The other Seishi and hospital workers, scurried to make the patients, had made it out safely while the jail-breakers just stood there, their minds trying to grasp what was going on.
Then Yari realized something important. "The light! It's coming from Umi-chan's room!"
Tamahome's heart clenched in fear. "MIAKA!" At the same time Suboshi cried Yui's name. They surged forward, only to be stopped by Hikitsu's outstretched arm. "What the hell do you think you're doing? Get out of my way!"
"You two would only end up killing yourselves. There's others who would be able to get them out quicker and safer." He nodded to Tokaki and Akane.
"Let's go, Gaki!"
"Right behind ya, Oyaji!" The elder vanished in a flash of light while the sandy-blonde took off running faster than the eye could follow. The others fidgeted while they waited especially Tamahome, Suboshi and Yari.
By the time they finally returned, the rest of the celestial warriors rejoined them. Tokaki teleported in with Yui under one arm and Taiyo under the other; Tomo and Tatara quickly taking them from his arms as he knelt and coughed, thumping a fist to his chest. Akane came a few seconds after with Miaka cradled in her arms. She, like the other, fell into a coughing fit while Keisuke and Tamahome cried happily over the genki brunette.
Miaka squirmed from out of the boys' grasps and hugged Akane tightly. "Arigato!" She quickly jerked back. "ACK!"
The speed demon cocked an eyebrow at her. "Nani?" She suddenly found herself groped. "Oi! The hell you doin'!?"
"You're a girl!"
Several of the other Seishi that weren't in jail looked surprised. "He is?"
"Of course I am!" Akane shouted, her face the same shade as her namesake.
Tokaki crossed his arms. "That Miaka is either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid to touch Gaki like that. Che, I won't even do it!"
Tamahome held a hand to his head with his teal bangs swaying with his head. "There's one in every group." Well, that is if you call a guy that covers himself in make-up 24/7 a cross-dresser...
"You're lucky, we have two." Hikitsu drawled, pointing towards Yuki and Bakuhatsu.
Their retort was lost when Yari burst into the conversation. "What happened to Umi-chan?"
"She's with me now... there's nothing to worry about..."
Everyone turned to the still glowing hospital; the building finally exploding as winds flung everyone and everything back several meters. After the gale settled down, a dark figure stood in the center of the wreckage, green energy crackling around his form. Glowing green eyes pierced through the brains of those that looked straight into them as a two-headed snake hovered about his shoulders, black hair slicked back beneath a headpiece that rested over his slopped forehead.
Yari snarled and narrowed his eyes. "Genbu..." His fists clenched tightly and shook at his sides and he broke into a dead sprint. "Damn you!" His arm reached back as if to grab something. A spear materialized within his grasp and he brought it down, an arch of glowing power sped towards the God. "GIVE UMI-CHAN BACK!"
Before the sonic attack reached Genbu, one of the two snake heads shot forward and swallowed it, the Seishi gasped. Unbeknownst to them, the attack traveled through its long body and to the second head. It promptly spat the energy back, slamming back to its releaser and sending the young man back, ramming against a large slab of concrete.
The God chuckled as he regarded his young warrior whom valiantly struggled back to his feet, clutching at his dislocated shoulder. "Foolish boy. She's been mine since she had arrived in to the Shijin Ten Shi Cho. It's impossible for you to take any of the girls away from us, or this world."
Everyone tensed. They weren't about to let the others go with out a fight. But then, upon the brow of the other three girls, their signs glowed brightly and engulfed them. After the light faded, standing in the middle of the 28 Seishi were Byakko, Seiryuu and Suzaku.
"Now," the red-winged God said with a malicious smile, "it's time for all of you to die... again."

Ah, the second book is finished! I hope you're all not expecting the third chapter to come forward for a while. I'm getting way behind on my Ranma ½ series. Tell me what you think about a few ideas I'm thinking about going on when I finish this 'epic'. Perhaps a couple side-stories to help give some of the characters more depth, perhaps even my writing of how the Byakko and Genbu Seishi called their Gods. I don't know something like that. I'm also thinking about writing a little series for THTC. That'll loads of fun! *cackles evilly at the thoughts of torturing a certain quartet enters her mind*
Well, that's all for now. I want to thank a lot of people (you know who you are), everyone that commented on the fic (you can do the same at ladyvirgo@hotmail.com) and I want to assure you that a lot of these people aren't mine. I have no ties with the actual anime, CDs, manga or OAV. Thanks again.
