Part 10
“I can now drink ten times more than I could before. I’m the most famous warrior of all the land and women completely adore me.” said Kale as he just got started on explaining how his armor had ‘affected his life’.
So far Cye and Dais had each done a fifteen minute explanation of how their armor changed them. Now it was Kale’s turn.
Good Grief! I wanted an explanation of how his armor changed his life, not how he fantasized it would change his life! Where are you Mia?! I don’t know how much longer I can keep this-
“Enough!” said Sage, interrupting both Nanko’s thoughts and Kale’s imaginative and false statements. Sage slowly turned to Nanko and gave him a piercing gaze.
“You had more than enough time by now. Let’s get this over with.”
“Um ok...” said Nanko slowly. He knew how to cast the spell by heart. It was one of the first spells that the Monk had ever taught him, but he never had tried it before. It would severe Ryo’s link to his armor in every way; body, mind, and soul. All that was required was for Nanko to say the words while the other warriors surrounded Ryo in a circle.
I’m sorry Mia...
Nanko took his staff and shook it once hard.
*Ring!*
“Let this Contact Between Metal and Body Be Torn Apart!
Let this Link Between Power and Mind Be Torn Apart!
Let this Friendship Between WildFire and Soul Be Torn Apart!
Circle of Eight Armors, I ask for your Power!”
*Ding*
Each of the eight warriors surrounding Ryo began to glow. Ryo’s own armor began to turn darker. For the last half hour he had done nothing, but stare into space. Not responding in anyway to what was happening around him since he saw the Princess’s body. Now he began clutching at his chest and gritted his teeth.
“STOP IT! I found proof that he isn’t the one!”
Nanko turned around at the sound of Mia’s voice. She stood at the doorway to the Garden with a look of fear. Nanko turned back to the warriors and saw that they were completely ignoring her shout.
Their minds are completely overcome by the spell! They can’t hear us and it’s too late to stop the spell!
“Uuugghhh!”
Ryo was now on the floor, hugging himself as his body began to throb with pain. His armor was nearly black now.
If only their was some way to take away the spell’s power, but the spell’s power-
Nanko reacted to the thought before he barely knew what he was doing. He swung his staff at the nearest warrior who was Rowen.
*Crack!*
The golden ball at the end of the staff hit Rowen right on the forehead. His helmet took most of the blow and it only caused Rowen to move a few feet back. It was no more than three feet, but was far enough to break the circle between the eight warriors.
When the circle broke, the glow slowly began to fade from the warriors and Ryo’s armor became a bright red color again. Ryo slowly got up and looked at Mia who was still standing at the doorway. He and Nanko were the only ones who actually heard Mia. The others had been to overcome by the spell to realize what was happening around them.
The eight warriors slowly began to blink and shake their heads as if they were just waking up. Sage frowned when he saw that Ryo still had his armor on.
“Ouch! Why do I have such a headache?” said Rowen as he rubbed his forehead.
“Um must be a side affect of the spell.” said Nanko as he crossed his fingers behind his back.
“Why does Ryo still have his armor on?” said Sage in a tone that was much more icy than Rowen’s voice.
“I told him to stop the spell.” said Mia and braced herself as Sage turned to look at her.
“You had no authority to do that. As I said before, you are not the real Princess-”
“I know that, but don’t you think considering how much I risked my life helping you that I deserve to be heard just a few minutes!” interrupted Mia as she nearly raised her voice to shouting level.
“Fine, you have five minutes to convince me that Ryo’s innocent before we do the spell without INTERRUPTION!”
“Ryo open your right hand.” said Mia as she turned to Ryo.
Ryo didn’t respond, but continue to stare at Mia.
“Ryo please! I know your not the killer, but if you don’t help me prove it then that means we’ll never find the real killer. I need your help to stop him from hurting anymore people like Yullie.” said Mia. Her voice trembled.
Ryo slowly opened his right hand and revealed a scar. It was the one that he had given himself when making a blood oath to Mia.
“I asked Yullie if the Ryo that poisoned him had a scar on his hand. Yullie is positive that their was no scar on Ryo’s palm when he saw Ryo. And I know for a fact that scar had been there before Yullie was kidnapped.”
“Yullie could have simply been disoriented when he was kidnapped. It’s not enough proof to prove that his innocent.” said Sage as he studied Ryo’s scar.
“Not enough proof to say his innocent, but isn’t it enough proof to hold off the Tear Soul ceremony!” said Mia as she began to feel desperate.
“Sir Sage I believe that this false Princess is letting her feelings for Sir Ryo interfere with her thinking. It’s obvious that she is infatuated.” said Dais which brought about a look of pure anger by Mia.
“That’s him!”
It was Yullie’s voice and coming from right behind Mia. Mia slowly moved a few steps to the side allowing the warriors to see Yullie. He had been hiding behind Mia the entire time. He pointed a finger at Dais.
“It was his voice that I heard when I was being told to kill the Princess.”
“So Yullie is kidnapped by a Ryo with no scar and with Dais’s voice. Can you say ‘illusion’ Dais?” said Mia as Dais began to back away from the others.
“Dais what do you have to say?” said Sage slowly as he began to put his hand on the hilt of his sword.
Dais’s face had been giving a charming smile to Mia, now it turned into a sneer.
“I’d say the bitch deserved it!”
“Your a traitor of the Royal Guard. She was your Princess.” said Anubis as he got his sickle ready.
“Don’t make it sound like she was a saint! She was a whore and all of you knew it. At first it was just a one night thing with a nobleman here and there. Then she turns Kento into her play toy. And then had Ryo in the palm of her hand. He was the most dedicated to the Princess and we all know why. I wanted in on some of the fun so I made an illusion of being Ryo and gave her the best night of her life. Once I took my illusion away and showed who really gave her a good time, she laughed. Laughed at me! Dais of the Spider! No one laughs at me-”
Dais didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence. Ryo was on him before anyone could react. He charged Dais and both hit the ground. He didn’t have his swords to fight with so he began punching Dais’s face repeatedly. Ryo’s punches caused a crunching sound as they broke Dais’s nose. Dais tried desperately to reach his weapon from behind his back, but the repeated punches to his head kept him from being able to concentrate.
Finally Ryo stopped his punches and grabbed Dais by the shoulders. His hands began to give off white light. Mia knew what was coming next and grabbed Yullie and shielded him with her body. She had no idea how Ryo’s special power would work without his swords. She felt a body pressing against hers from behind. and saw Kento’s face as she turned. He was bodily shielding her just like she was shielding Yullie.
Flare Up Now!
Ryo and Dais became encompassed in a ball of white energy. A wave of heat washed over everyone as the ball of energy exploded leaving both Ryo and Dais covered in flames. Both of them were on the laying on the ground. Mia slowly let go of Yullie moved away from Kento. She could feel him holding on to her a minute longer than necessary before letting go. She approached Ryo and Dais. The flames had disappeared after a few seconds.
Ryo appeared unharmed, but Dais’s face was covered with fire burns. He would never look the same again. Ryo slowly opened his eyes and got up.
“Ryo are you ok?” asked Mia. It felt like a stupid question to ask, but it was the only thing Mia could think of to say.
Ryo didn’t respond to Mia’s words and instead went over to Dais. He removed Dais’s helmet which revealed that much of Dais’s hair had been burned as well. Then he went over to a stone chair nearby. It was the chair Mia used when listening to Cye’s lectures. Ryo picked it up and began to carry it over to Dais. It was obvious where he planned to drop it.
“Ryo don’t!” cried Mia as she went in front of Ryo to stop him. Ryo tried to go around her, but she counteracted every step of his with one of her own. The other warriors kept quite as they watched the whole incident. Many of them wanted to do what Ryo was trying to do.
Finally Ryo bent his legs slightly and then jumped up. He easily jumped behind Mia without touching her. Mia turned around and did the only thing she could think of to stop Ryo. She dived over Dais’s body before he could drop the chair. She could feel his chest rising and lowering which indicated that he was still alive.
“Get out of the way Mia.” It was the first time Ryo had called her Mia and not ‘Princess’.
“I can’t Ryo... I can’t let you become a murderer. You can’t kill him this way Ryo. Let Nanko do his Tear Soul ceremony which is how his suppose to be punished. I know you need to avenge your Princess and you have Ryo. Dais will get what he deserves, but I can’t just stand by and let you become the same monster as he is. Your my friend Ryo or at least I hope were friends and I can’t let that happen to you...” said Mia. She didn’t know what Ryo was going to do. If it was the Ryo of her world then she could have guessed more easily, but this was a different Ryo.
The chair hit the grass with a thud. Mia felt two hands carefully lift her up. Ryo took her off her feet and held her in his arms. He gave her a look that she had seen before. It was the same look that he had given when touching her face a few days ago.
“I’m taking her to the throne room to rest. Get ready to do the Tear Soul when I get back.” said Ryo as he entered the doorway that lead back to the palace.
“I really don’t need to rest. I feel fine.” said Mia as she felt her face get red.
“I don’t want you to see the Tear Soul. It’s a very disturbing sight. You already saw it almost happen to me.” said Ryo as they made a turn in the hallway and entered the Throne room. The body of the Princess was still on the floor. Sage had been so eager to punish Ryo for the murder that he forgot to give orders to have the body taken away to a more proper place.
Ryo didn’t even give the body a glance, but went to the throne and carefully placed Mia on it. It was hard to believe that half an hour ago he couldn’t take his eyes off the corpse. Seeing the corpse of her double made Mia remember something that had terrified her. She quickly grabbed on to Ryo’s arm which surprised both of them.
“Ryo you avenged your Princess. And you do know that their was no way you could stop Dais, right? I mean he was part of the Royal Guards. Their was no reason to suspect him. So their’s no need for you to have the Tear Soul, right?” says Mia as she keeps her hold on Ryo’s arm.
Ryo drew his arm away from Mia. He seem to be thinking of how to best answer Mia’s question.
“I was planning to have the Tear Soul if I failed to protect the Princess. Because once she died, I didn’t believe that I could protect another Princess with both my heart and soul. But I did find another Princess I could protect with heart and soul. If I were to have the Tear Soul that would hurt the Princess and I need to make sure I can do everything I can not to hurt that Princess.”
“But whose this new Pri- oh but I’m not a Princess. I’m just some fake. I lied to you and everyone else.” said Mia as she looked away from Ryo. She couldn’t help, but feel guilty over deceiving Ryo and the others.
“You are a true Princess. Now I must go and help do the Tear Soul on Dais. I and the others will be here in ten minutes.” said Ryo and then turned and left the room.
Ten minutes later...
Two pages had come under Yullie’s supervision and taken the Princess’s body. Yullie was told of Mia’s true identity at the garden while Ryo and Mia went to the Throne room.
He came over to Mia and bowed as they body was carried away.
“You don’t have to bow to me anymore. I’m not royalty remember?” said Mia as she smiled.
“Even if your not royalty, I’d be honored to serve you. Where will you be going now? I’d be grateful if you would let me come with you as your servant.”
“I..I don’t know where I’ll go...”
“You’re going home of course.”
It was Nanko’s voice. He entered the Throne room with the eight warriors behind him. The only one missing was Dais...
“Where’s Dais?” said Mia while wondering if he was dead.
“In the palace dungeon. His mind was totally destroyed by the spell even though he lives.” said Sage. He paused a second and then approached Mia. He carefully held her hand and kissed it.
“I apologize for not believing you about Ryo. I had let my anger get the best of me.” said Sage while still holding her hand.
“It’s ok Sage. We all let anger get the best of us. Um I forgive you.” said Mia as she took her hand away. She could feel a blush coming on.
And that’s why he has five girlfriends a month in my world.
“What did you mean going home Nanko? You never said you knew a way to get back to Earth and why didn’t you use it to get yourself back home while stranded here?” said Mia.
“The gin told me that with the spell you know we can make it home. You would need the power of my staff though to guide us to the world we want to go to specifically.”
“Your sure you don’t want to stay here Nanko? Being Advisor Monk sounds pretty nice.”
“Yeah, but my skills will be more useful at home I think. They don’t have many Monks of Gin there I think.”
“May I come?” asked Yullie eagerly.
“Sorry Yullie, but I think it’s best you stay here. The new Princess is going to need a smart Page to look after her.” said Mia as she ruffed up Yullie’s hair affectionately.
Mia then turned to the Royal Guards.
“So I guess this is good bye... It has been an exciting three days.” Each Royal Guard stood in a line before her.
First she went over to Sage and gave him a hug as he gave her a rare smile.
Cye gave her an affectionate squeeze before letting go during their hug.
Mia kissed Rowen’s bruised forehead while they hugged which gave Rowen a strange combination of red and blue when blushing.
Kale opened his arms for a hug, but Mia simply put her hand out for a handshake to his disappointment.
Sekhmet encircled his arms around her before she could decide whether a handshake would be best for him.
“Why did you choose to trust me to protect you during dinner?”
“I had to. If I used any other Royal Guard then Dais would have been suspicious of why that person was missing. Everyone thought you were just imprisoned when they didn’t see you.”
“But why didn’t you imprison me for real. Their was enough suspicion for it.”
“But not enough evidence. Besides, sometimes you just need... faith.”
Sekhmet let her go as she said those last words and stepped back.
Kento gave her a bear hug and lifted her feet a few inches from the ground. He looked like he was about to say something and then stopped himself. Finally he let her go.
When she turned to Ryo, he held her gently as if afraid he was going to break her.
“So what are you going to do now that the new Princess is going on a trip home?”
“I’m not sure. I guess I’ll have to find a new reason to go on. Perhaps I’ll try to become the strongest warrior their is.”
Ryo stroked Mia’s hair as he said those words and then let go.
Mia turned to Nanko finally.
“So what do I have to do? I don’t have any chalk or candles.”
“We don’t need those. I’ll create the pentacle and instead of candles we’ll just use the armors themselves. That means that Ryo, Kento, Rowen, Sage, and Cye have to be in a circle around us.”
As Nanko said this, he took his staff and waved it across the floor. A pentacle made up of white chalk appeared on the floor. The Ronins moved and stood in the places that Nanko specified. Except for Kento...
“Kento can you stand over to Cye’s left? Kento?” asked Mia as she approached Kento. He stood against the wall. Kento ran up to Mia and grabbed her. He had both hands on her arms.
“You don’t have to go! You can stay here and keep pretending to be the Princess. We won’t tell. You’ll be treated like royalty here. Why do you want to go back home?” said Kento with anger in his voice.
“Because it’s home. I don’t belong here Kento. I know what happened between you and the Princess, but I’m not her. I’m not that woman you slept with.” said Mia as she felt herself get angry.
He probably just wants me to stay because I look like a woman he slept with. He only knew me for three days. I know I shouldn’t get angry, but I wish he had a bit more respect for me.
“I’m glad your not her!”
Mia was jolted from her thoughts with those words.
“You.. you laugh at my jokes and talk to me. And you seem so much more kinder than she was. I just want things like they were for the last few days...” says Kento as he pulls her against his chest. Once again she heard his heartbeat as he held her against his chest.
“I thought I loved her, but I was wrong. I guess what I’m saying is that you make feel... better about myself and that’s something the Princess never did.”
Mia slowly wraped her arms around Kento’s neck.
“Kento you don’t need me to have good times. You have good friends like Cye and the others to help you out when you feel down. Please let me go home Kento. I miss my friends there.”
I don’t want you for just good times! I want you here because your beautiful, smart and caring. And I don’t want to hold Cye like I’m holding you now!
Kento put his face against Mia’s hair and took a deep breath in. He wanted to remember her smell, touch, sound, and sight. Finally he let go and stood at the spot that she asked him to stand. Each warrior stood at a point of the large pentacle on the floor. Mia and Nanko stood in the center of the circle. Both held onto Nanko’s staff with one hand. Mia took a deep breath and said the words.
I wish to open a window
I wish to create a crack
I wish to make a hole
Between the reality and the next!
Mia reached out and touched Ryo’s chest...
Mia moved her hand to Sage’s chest...
Mia moved her hand to Rowen’s chest...
Mia moved her hand to Kento’s chest...
Mia moved her hand to Cye’s chest...
She moved her hand back and just then noticed the bracelet on her wrist. She realized then that the Bracelets of Heavenlight were still on her!
“Sage I still have these Bracelets on! Oh No! Gotta get them off!”
Mia began to try to pull them off, but they wouldn’t budge. She knew that Sage had somehow placed them on her, but she forgot how.
“They won’t come off! Help me out here Sage.” said Mia in alarm.
Sage reached out with his hands to remove the bracelets, but his hands passed through Mia’s arm as if she was a ghost.
The spell is already taking affect! Sage and the others can’t help me get them off!
“Keep a hand on the staff or you won’t get teleported home.” Nanko reminded Mia. Mia quickly grabbed the staff and began trying to remove the bracelets with one hand. So far she couldn’t even get one off. She then began to notice that the Ronin doubles were becoming blurry and disorienting.
Oh forget it! I’ll just have to leave them on now!
Mia’s surroundings turned into blackness. Nanko’s staff gave a blinding flash of light which caused Mia to close her eyes. When she opened them she could see that she was now back in the library basement with Nanko beside her. The five candles she had brought were burnt out.
“Yes! I’m home! Uh-oh, how am I going to explain that I was missing for three days or why I’m wearing this dress!”
“What dress?”
Mia looked at her clothing and was taken by surprise at what she saw. Her dress was gone and now she wore jeans and a short sleeve shirt.
“How did you do that?” said Mia while studying her new clothes.
“It’s a Monk trick.” says Nanko with a grin.
