Part 9

Mia came downstairs just in time to see Sage use his Armor of Halo to heal Rowen. When at the Condor building, they decided to bandage everyone and use Sage’s healing powers at home. Everyone sat in the living room, waiting for their turn. Sage waves his glowing sword pass Rowen’s leg and soon it was completely healed. When Sage was sure that everyone was healed, his armor disappeared.

For the last ten minutes Kento had been glaring at Sage while he was healing other Ronins. Finally Sage had enough and turned to him.

“If you have something to say, then say it!” says Sage.

“I told you not to flirt with Leono. What’s the deal with making those moves. I was planning to catch her.” says Kento as his voice got louder with each word.

“Then you should have moved faster.” says Sage.

Ugh! I better end this before it gets anymore out of control.

“Hey guys, theirs something you should know.” says Mia as she sat down.

Both Sage and Kento looked in her direction.

“When Leono was running out of the building, she was saying something about having to find her boyfriend.” says Mia as she crossed her fingers behind her back.

Both Sage and Kento’s faces fell when they heard the word ‘boyfriend’. Sage sighed and turned to Rowen.

“Want to play a game of chess?”

“Sure”

Both went to the other room. Kento simply sat in his chair and looked depressed. Mia felt a twinge of guilt.

Oh stop worrying yourself Mia. As soon as it’s dinner time, he’ll forget all about it.

Near dinner time...

Mia had finally caught up on all the work that she had missed during her out of world ‘adventure’ and now she was ready to eat. She came down stairs and the first thing she saw was Kento still seating in the same chair that she had seen him in a few hours ago. And he still looked extremely depressed. He seemed to be staring at a candle on the table.

“Kento! Have you been sitting there since I last saw you?” says Mia in alarm.

“Yeah, no biggie.” says Kento as he continued to stare at the candle.

“I hear Cye is making steak. One of your favorites.” says Mia as she attempted to cheer him up.

“I’m not hungry. I think I’ll skip dinner.”

Alarm bells were ringing in Mia’s head as she heard those words.

“Now look Kento, you’re just going to have to get over Leono. You haven’t even met her for a full half hour for crying out loud. Get over it!” says Mia. She couldn’t believe that Kento was getting so depressed about a girl he knew almost nothing about.

“Leave me alone.” muttered Kento as he got up. He opened a door and went outside.

“Why is he like this. I’ve seen him break up with girls who he dated for weeks and not get depressed. Why can’t he get over Leono.” muttered Mia in frustration.

“Because he thinks that he can really relate to her.”

Mia jumped at the sound of Cye’s voice. She quickly turned around and saw him in the hallway.

“I’m not following.” says Mia.

“If you take a seat, I’ll explain.” says Cye as he goes into the living room and takes the seat Kento had left.

Mia seats down in a chair beside Cye.

“It’s true that Kento doesn’t really know Leono at all yet. What he does know is that she is willing to face demon soldiers and people like Master Cane. He also knows that she had saved his life twice. The truth is that all of us are starting to respect her more. But Kento admires her the most I think.” says Cye.

“And how about me? You guys never admired me...” mutters Mia. Before getting the armor, she had some close calls with the demon soldiers and Talpa’s minions. And she more than once helped out the Ronins. Did the Ronins hold less respect for her when she didn’t go running around in silver armor and waving a spear?

“Mia we respect you even more than Leono. Leono seems nice, but we know with absolute certainty that we can count on you. Kento though had always felt a little intimidated when around you.” says Cye.

“Me? Intimidate him!?” says Mia. Kento weighed three times more than her. And could probably lift her up with one hand easily.

“Your an incredibly intelligent person Mia and usually end up using your brain to help us out of a situation. Kento always believed that you were smarter than him. He thinks he can relate a lot to Leono because she seems to be more of a fighter than a thinker.” says Cye.

“How do you know all this? Did he tell you?” asked Mia. She had one other question that she wasn’t sure whether or not to ask. Why was he telling her all this?

“He didn’t say those things specifically, but I could tell by the way he talked about her and you. Sometimes a best friend can know your mind better than you do. And theirs one other thing you should know.” says Cye as he glanced at Mia.

“Yes?”

“It wouldn’t hurt if some pretty lady came up to him and gave him a morale boost about how he’ll find that special someone someday. I’d do it myself, but I think it would be better if it came from a female.” says Cye as he gave her a smile.

So that’s why your telling me all this. Maybe I can do more than just give him the old ‘find that special someone someday’ speech.

“I think I’m going to miss dinner Cye. Tell the others I’m sorry.” says Mia as she got up.

“Kento is in the backyard.” says Cye as he got up himself and headed for the kitchen.

Mia quickly ran outside. She peeked behind the house and could see Kento. He appeared to be practicing some martial arts. Mia could tell by watching him practice that Kento was a whole lot better in marital arts than her. He was using moves that she didn’t even recognize. She was more skilled now, but it would be a long time before she could ever reach Kento’s level of fighting skill. She looked around for a place where nobody could hear her if she made some noise. She spotted the shed a few yards away and quickly crept to it. After entering she held her arms out.

“Nanko is going to kill me if he finds out I’m doing this.” mutters Mia as she prepares to summon her armor.

“Armor of HeavenLight, Toa Chi!”

Mia was lifted in the air and began to spin.

*Flash*

Once she was covered in silver, Mia studied her face in an old mirror in the shed.

My life seemed to have gotten incredibly complicated when I opened that spell book. First I was a Princess, now I’m a female Ronin warrior. Would I have been better off not opening that book?

Mia shook those thoughts from her head. What was done, was done and nothing could change that. She took a deep breath and exited the shed. She entered the backyard and approached Kento. Kento didn’t notice her until she was only fifteen feet away. He was trying a flying kick when he noticed her.

*Thump!*

And ends up on his back on the ground.

“Hello Kento.” says Mia as she tries to figure out what to say next.

What was I thinking? Just calm down Mia. Kento is interested in Leono so Kento is going to find out a little of what Leono is like.

“Hi Leono, did you come to take me up on that offer to spar?” says Kento as he quickly got up.

“Actually no, you see I just broke up with my boyfriend.” says Mia and could see Kento’s face light up.

“So I’m wondering if your interested in seeing an Opera with me?” asked Mia. Kento looked momentarily surprised.

“A Opera?” asked Kento. He seemed unable to believe what he had heard.

Kento couldn’t stand Operas. Mia once forced all five of the guys to go to one with her. Kento ended up going asleep in ten minutes.

“Um how about we see a football game instead?” asked Kento.

“Ok, I guess, but I don’t know a thing about football. I actually find the game a little dull.” says Mia and has to use all her will power not to giggle. Kento was looking at her as if he couldn’t believe his ears. And Mia was scaring him off by doing one simple thing. Being herself.

“I guess this isn’t going to work out.” muttered Kento as he walked towards the house.

“Kento wait!” says Mia as she grabbed his arm. She could feel it tense under her hand.

“Look Kento, what did you expect? That because I want to fight evil, I had the same interests you had?” says Mia as she let go of his arm.

“I don’t know, maybe...” says Kento as he kicked some grass.

“Look Kento, I really don’t need a Ronin who will flirt with me. I need a Ronin who will help me.” says Mia.

“What kind of help.” says Kento as he slowly turned around.

“Well I need someone who is really good at fighting to teach me. And from what I’ve seen, your one of the best.” says Mia as Kento’s face seemed to turn red from the praise.

“Yeah fighting seems to be all I’m good at. I thought that since you fight to, we would be more... compatible.” says Kento.

“Kento a girl isn’t going to date you because your good at fighting. She’s going to date you because your sweet and you always seem to wear your heart on your sleeve. Those are the characteristics that would make me consider going out with you anyway.” says Mia and then she realizes what she just said.

Whoah! What am I saying here?! Would I actually consider going out with Kento?

“How do you know about my ‘characteristics’?” asked Kento as he looked at Mia with curiosity.

“Um..well you see..”

“Hey you must be Leono of HeavenLight.”

Mia instantly recognized that voice and braced herself as she looked over Kento’s shoulder. There was Nanko near the door looking at both of them. On his face was a smile, but his eyes seem to say ‘I’m going to pulverize you!’.

“Cye asked me to tell you that it’s dinner time Kento.”

“Oh right, we’re having steak.” says Kento as he licked his lips. Mia gave him a smile. It seemed that he was over his depression.

“So when do you want your first training session?” asked Kento. Nanko stared at Mia in alarm.

“How about here after dinner tomorrow?” says Mia while ignoring the looks Nanko was giving her.

“Great, watch out. I’m not going easy on you.” says Kento with a smile as he entered the house.

Then she glanced at Nanko. He tapped his foot and simply stared at him.

“Well I had to do something! Now he won’t be flirting with me all the time when we meet. And now I have a great trainer.” says Mia as she took a few steps back.

“What about me?”

“Nanko I nearly killed you after one day of training. You wouldn’t have survived a week.”

“Yeah.. Well I can’t believe you would risk revealing your true identity just because you couldn’t take a little flirting.”

“Considering the fact that you never had anyone flirt with you, I think it’s impossible to explain.”

“That’s a cheap shot!”

“Hi Mia, can you tell me where you keep extra blankets?” says Lilly as she comes out of the door to the house.

“Try your closet Lilly.” says Mia as she prays that Nanko doesn’t notice the ‘Mia’ part of the sentence Lilly just said.

“Yeah, and try under the coach in- DID YOU JUST SAY MIA!??” shouts Nanko as his face turns red.

“Nanko be quite, the guys inside will hear you.” says Mia. Lilly stared at Nanko for a second and then sighs.

“Boys” says Lilly simply and then walks back inside the house.

Nanko once again stares at Mia and taps his foot.

“Well you said I couldn’t tell the Ronins. You didn’t say I couldn’t tell anyone else.”

“Oh sure! Let’s go tell your neighbor or better yet, your teachers!”

“Look, she knows it’s a secret and she won’t tell them. Now drop it!”

“Ok... But can you at least take off the armor before anyone else shows up.”

Mia takes her circlet off and with a single flash of light appears in her normal clothes.

“Now promise me that you won’t-”

“Hey Mia, glad I found you.” says Ryo as he came through the door. Nanko quickly shuts ups while Mia tensed up a little. She was still upset at Ryo slightly.

Ryo turned to Nanko.

“I’d like to talk to her alone Nanko.” says Ryo as he crossed his arms.

“Oh! Uh sure.” says Nanko and he quickly goes inside the house.

Ryo turned and faced Mia.

“I owe you an apology.”

Mia relaxed slightly as she studied Ryo. She knew that it was extremely hard for Ryo to admit when his wrong.

“Being a girl doesn’t mean that you can’t handle tough situations in battle or that you can’t fight well.” says Ryo as he stared at the ground.

“What changed your mind?”

“You can probably guess that it was Leono. She ended up saving us a second time. Even I have to admit that I’m wrong when a girl ends up saving my life two times within a week. When it mattered most, she did what she had to do.” says Ryo.

Mia knew that it was dangerous to ask the question on her mind, but she really wanted to know the answer.

“And do you think I could learn how to fight and make tough decisions in battle?”

“I think you can do just about anything that you set your mind to do. But I wouldn’t want you to do that.” says Ryo as he finally looks up at her.

“Why?” asked Mia as she felt herself get angry.

Honestly! He wants me to follow his ‘old fashion’ ways and not fight. Probably thinks that I couldn’t handle it.

“Because the thought of your life being at risk nearly kills me.” says Ryo softly. Mia’s anger turned to surprise. Before she could respond, Ryo quickly walks up to her. He drew her to him with his arms and then kissed her. Sometimes Ryo could be very passionate and fierce. Mia had seen that passion when he fought and now she felt it when he kissed. His lips were hot and his body warmth felt incredible. He held her tighter to him, wanting the kiss to last as long as possible.

“Mia?”

Both Mia and Ryo quickly separated while turning bright red. They saw Lilly standing ten feet away.

“I’ll come later if you want?” says Lilly. Mia thought for a second that her ruby eyes had actually glowed.

“It’s ok Lilly, um what did you want?” says Mia as she wondered why she felt so hot.

“Well I looked around and decided I wanted to stay. If it’s ok with you? That is if you’re still my friend.” says Lilly quietly. For a moment she looked afraid.

“Lilly, you can stay here as long as you like. And of course we’re still friends.” says Mia as she gave Lilly a smile. Lilly returned the smile and for the first time since Mia had seen her, she actually looked happy.

“Let’s go inside and eat dinner.” says Ryo as he got slightly less red.

All three walked into the mansion to eat Cye’s steak.

The end, until I feel like writing a sequel...
