Part 4

“Well? How do I look?”

Before Sage and Nanko stood a Mia dressed in an elegant, pearl white dress. Around her neck was a silver scarf. And the final touch was the golden tiara she wore. Which held a large pearl.

“Perfect, you look just like her.” said Sage while inspecting her up and down.

I was going for ‘You look gorgeous!’ or maybe ‘What a beautiful creature!’, sigh.

“Now how do these bracelets work?” asked Mia while glancing at them.

“Oh you just-”

“Don’t need to know that.” interrupted Sage while glaring at Nanko.

“But what if the killer-”

“We will make sure she is in no danger. The law forbids anyone other than royalty to use the Armor of Heavenlight.” said Sage in a cold tone.

Sage looked over at Mia.

“I’m sorry... But even if your the princess’s double from another world. It would break the oath I’ve sworn in becoming a Royal Guard to let you use them...” said Sage in a softer tone.

“No problem, I’d probably end up tripping myself in the armor.” said Mia. She had a pretty good idea of how to call the armor. She has seen the Ronin’s called their armor several times, but decided it was best not to tell Sage that. It would only make him more uncomfortable with the thought of her holding them.

*Knock knock*

Everyone in the room took a deep breath. Sage slowly went over to the door and opened it.

“Yullie!”

Mia couldn’t stop herself from saying the word. There stood young Yullie in a simple red tunic. Sage and Nanko gave her a quick glare before turning their attention to Yullie.

“Hello Sir Sage and Monk Nanko, I’m here to ask her Highness what she would like for breakfast.”

“The Princess isn’t feeling well. Bring her some oatmeal Page Yullie. And after that have the other eight members of the Royal Guard come here.”

Yullie nodded and bowed once to the Princess then left.

“Sorry about that. I was just so surprised.”

“It’s my fault, I should have told you the Yullie in this world is your page. He brings you food and summons anyone in the palace that you wish to talk to. He also does other various work for you.” said Sage.

“Remember to stick with the story when the others get here...” Added in Nanko.

“Maybe we should forget this and just go question Sekhmet. I know this was my idea, but now that I think about it... It seems pretty obvious that Sekhmet of Venom would be the one responsible for this.” said Sage, obviously having second thoughts.

“I actual doubt it.”

Nanko and Sage looked in Mia’s direction.

Uhoh, didn’t mean to say that out loud.

“Um I mean it just seems too obvious. We know it’s poison and a Ronin did it. Even before we knew it was a Ronin I was thinking of Sekhmet. But now I don’t believe it’s him. His way to clever to go and use poison when he knows it would make him a suspect. If the Sekhmet in this world is anything like the one in mine, then he would be much too devious to allow us to place suspicion on him this soon.”

“You are probably right. We will wait until we find more proof.” said Sage.

Mia just then noticed the body gone.

“Where’s the body of the Princess.” says Mia alarmed.

“Oh I hid it.” says Nanko.

“But I didn’t see you even touch it.” says Mia with suspicion.

“It’s a Monk trick.” says Nanko with a grin.

Half an hour later...

Mia was in the same room with five Ronin doubles and four Warlord doubles. Each fully dressed in their armor. She couldn’t help, but feel a little wierded out by the experience. It became even stranger when she saw Anubis who in her world had died. He gave her a smile as he had entered. Right now she sat on the bed as they stood before her. Many of them gave her concerned looks, obviously wondering why they had all been summoned here.

“I’ve summon you all here to tell you news that will shock you.” said Mia in as much a formal voice as she could muster.

“This morning I’ve been poisoned.”

“What!!!”

“Who?!”

“Are you-”

Nanko raised his hand asking for silence.

Mia could see Sekhmet getting a few harsh stares. She couldn’t help, but feel a little sorry for him.

They don’t even know about the Aura we found and they suspect him. He couldn’t possibly be stupid enough to go and do something like this. Because it was poison they are already suspecting him.

“Luckily Sage came by in time to use his Armor of Halo to heal me.” said Mia.

A few of the guys gave Sage a pat on the back, but Sage simply stared ahead coldly. Mia could guess that Sage was wishing that he had found the Princess in time to do that.

“But unfortunately being poisoned has caused a problem for me. Monk Nanko will you please explain...” said Mia.

Nanko stepped forward and began to speak.

“Even though Sage was able to stop the poison from killing the Princess, it still did some damage to her mind that could not be healed. Princess Mia is suffering massive amnesia. She can remember certain names of people, but most of memory of everyone she has met is gone.”

Their was once again more shouts of outrage from a few of the warriors.

“But it is not permanent. The Princess’s memory should return slowly over time. Hopefully she will also remember who gave her the poison. We suspect some servant doing so, but we can’t be certain. Until then we must help her rule her kingdom as best as possible. It could start a panic if people knew of the Princess’s condition.”

Mia had to admit that the story Nanko thought up was a very good one. It was the perfect excuse of why she didn’t know anything about this world. And the killer would have to make a move against her to avoid letting his identity be revealed. It could be possible that Nanko was trained as a Monk for more reasons other than the one that he ‘hears voices’.

Sage stepped forward.

“As a member of the Royal Guard I am enacting the Everwatch act. Their shall be a different Royal Guard watching the Princess everyday.”

That means one of these guys will be watching me today. And each day a different guy is going to be watching me. But if the killer is one of these guys, then that means he’ll be guarding me for a day as well. I doubt that he’ll make a move though during his day of guarding. How could he explain me being dead? God, we have to figure out who this guy is before my time as Princess becomes short lived. Whats worst is the thought that I’m going to be watched every minute of the day. What if they catch me doing something embarressing?!! They better not dare watch me as I shower!

Mia heard movement in the back of the group which interrupted her thoughts.

“I have a elixir that will make the Princess immune to almost every poison their is.” said Sekhmet as he stepped forward. He took a glass vial out.

Sage took the vial from Sekhmet and gave it to Mia.

Now don’t worry yourself. It’s not poison. Sekhmet wouldn’t be stupid enough to poison me with all these guys here.

With a deep breath Mia opened the vial and then drank it. It tasted AWFUL. She felt like tar was oozing down her throat. She began clawing at the air.

“You’ve poisoned her you snake!” shouted Ryo as he drew his swords.

“Should we give her mouth to mouth?” asked Kale in a voice that was WAY too eager in Mia’s opinion.

“*Gasp* no, anything but that!” said Mia as she struggled to opened her mouth, “it just tastes like sewer slug. Ugh! Someone get me some water please!”

Almost like magic, Yullie was beside her with a glass of water. Mia quickly drank it to get rid of the awful aftertaste.

“Sorry about that, I should have warned you. But that elixir should last a good three weeks.” said Sekhmet, as he glared at Ryo.

“Wow, that was quick. Thanks Yullie.” Mia said while giving the boy a smile.

“Eeer your welcome your Highness.” said Yullie, a little taken aback at how informal the Princess became.

“Remember, no one must learn of the Princess’s condition. Other than us, the Advisor Monk, and her page.” said Sage.

Ryo walked before Mia and bowed his head.

“I wish to be the one to protect you on this day Princess. If it pleases you?” said Ryo.

“Sure.” Mia said and winced inwardly at how informal that response had sounded like. Ryo’s voice had sounded like it was filled with emotion and anger.

“Now lets all get out and give her some time to rest. She had a busy morning.” said Nanko as he lead everyone out.

When Mia and Ryo were alone, Mia looked over at Ryo. He was staring intently at the ground. Mia couldn’t help, but wonder how different this Ryo was from the one in her world.

“Ryo you can look at me. I won’t bite.”

Ryo lifted his head and looked intensely at Mia and then slowly took his sword out.

Oh God, Oh God, it can’t be him. Please don’t let it be him!

“Ryo what are you doing?” said Mia as she tried to keep her voice as steady as possible. She began to wonder if she should start screaming.

Ryo grabbed the blade of the sword with his right hand and Mia could see blood start to drip down the blade.

“I swear by my blood, I will find out who did this to you. And make him pay.” said Ryo and then he let go of the sword, revealing a nasty gash on his palm.

“I can’t believe you did that you Ass!” shouted Mia.

Ryo showed an expression of complete surprise. Mia just couldn’t control her temper. Ryo had just given himself a scar right in front of her eyes.

“Just stand there and don’t go hurting yourself anymore ok? Now where is that napkin...”

One thing that a Princess had was plenty of napkins. Mia took one she found on her desk and went over to Ryo. She held it to the cut to stop the bleeding. Mia could see that a little of the blood was getting on her dress, but didn’t bother to give it a second thought. She saw five others just like the one she was wearing in her closet.

“Is their a physician in this palace? Maybe I should just find Sage to use the Armor of Halo to heal this.”

“It’s... it’s a blood oath I’ve sworn for you. The scar will represent my commitment to it.”

“Next time Ryo why don’t you just cross your heart.”

Ryo looked at her confused. Mia gave a sigh.

“Nevermind, just don’t hurt yourself like this again. Ok?”

“I..yes Princess. I’m sorry I angered you...”

“Oh stop that! Yullie!”

“Yes?”

Mia jumped a few feet at hearing his voice right beside her. She could have sworn he had left the room.

“Do you know where I can find some ointment for this cut?”

“I’ll get it your Highness.”

Giving a bow, he headed out the door.

Ryo just then realized he still had his sword out and placed it back in the scabbard. Yullie returned with a small pot containing a white cream. Mia carefully dabbed some over the gash. After she had finish, she had Yullie get some bandages.

“Princess I can bandage myself honest.”

“But-”

“Please your Majesty!” said Ryo. Mia could see Ryo was extremely uncomfortable. She couldn’t help, but feel slightly hurt. A few minutes ago he was making a blood oath to her. Now Ryo looked like he wanted to be anywhere, but here.

“Fine.” muttered Mia as she handed the bandages over.
