Part 3
Pri..I mean Mia, wake up please.
Mia felt herself waking up. She could feel somebody holding her and opened her eyes. At first everything was blurred, but soon the room came into focus. Sage was gently holding her while looking very intently on her face. Mia could feel herself blush at having Sage’s face only inches from hers. He seemed to study her with such closeness, that he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
So much for the hope that this was all a dream.
You better lie down on the bed for a second. I’m going to have to ask you some questions about this spell to ‘contact other worlds’ as you put it.
Mia carefully got out of Sage’s arms and sat down on the bed. To Mia’s left was a body covered in bed sheets. Mia could guess who the person was. So that was Princess Mia.... I can’t believe I fainted though! Come on Mia, you saw worse. Get your head together. Do you want to become like one of those air-heads Sage always had clinging to his arm. Next I’ll be going ‘eeek’ when I see spiders and mice. I wonder what she was like...
*Knock knock*
Both Mia and Sage became completely frozen. Mia looked over to Sage and wondered what he was going to do. Sage slowly went over to the door while keeping a hand on the hilt of his sword. While opening it just an inch, he spied who was outside. His face showed relief and he quickly opened the door all the way. Outside was a boy between twelve and fourteen years old. His hair was straw yellow and he wore dark blue robes. Mia did a quick intake of breath as she saw the boy holding a staff. It was the Ancient’s staff with golden wings and rings that jingled on those wings.
Mia this is Nanko the Monk. He helped the princess when it came to the business of mysticism.
Has he even hit puberty yet?
Hey! shouted the boy with as much dignity that he could summoned. Which in Mia’s opinion wasn’t much.
Nanko I think you should look over at that body.
Sage I know that it’s Princess Mia and I also know the girl with the big mouth is definitely not royalty.
Hey! shouted Mia, Respect your elders you brat.
I will when I meet one.
Ugh! You little-
This isn’t the time for bickering, please stop. said Sage in a cold voice that one does not argue with.
Sage’s tone caught Mia by surprised. But she then she realized why. This wasn’t the Sage she knew, but a different one. Just like that body on the floor was a different Mia.
If Sage and Mia were as good friends here as I am with my Sage, then he must truly be feeling grief stricken right now.
I’m sorry Sage. It’s just all of this...it’s a bit overwhelming.
Sage’s face gave a softer expression and he nodded. Nanko was staring intently at Mia.
Your from Earth aren’t you?
The planet Earth if that’s what you mean. How did you know that?
I’m from there to. said Nanko with a grin, Can you please tell me exactly how you got here?
Mia sighed and began describing how she found a spell to ‘open a window to another world’ and how she cast it. She told Nanko exactly how she cast the spell including calling upon the five Ronin armors. Nanko listened intently and gave an expression of being very thoughtful.
Well?
I know why you were brought here instead of seeing a vision. The spell would have just gave you a vision, but you used too much power. The five armors are extremely powerful and caused you to open up a giant hole instead of a crack into another reality. Using just two or three of the armors would have been good enough. said Nanko as if everyone knew that.
The spell said use five powers. muttered Mia.
That was assuming you would be using minor powers. Like calling upon someone’s spirit or some special holy ground. Don’t sulk about it. said Nanko.
I’m not sulking! said Mia in a voice that indicated a whole lot of sulking.
Mia you recognized me. Does that mean theirs another Sage in your world? said Sage.
Mia nod and began telling the whole story of how she found the Ronin warriors and helped them defeat Talpa. She even talked about the Ancient One and how Nanko had a staff just like the one the Ancient possessed. Nanko showed no surprise at this remark.
Now you tell me how you got here. said Mia to Nanko.
Well I’m an orphan. I lived with a foster family and often played in the woods out back. And one day while I was out there...
Nanko enjoyed just lying down on the ground and relaxing.
*CRACK*
Nanko got up and looked around. He had never heard a sound like that in these woods. Turning in the direction he had heard it, he saw some black smoke slowly rising to the sky.
A fire, maybe I can stamp it out if it’s just a small one. muttered Nanko and he ran towards the smoke.
But he didn’t see any fire. What he did see was that the leaves and plants were all dead at one spot. Smoke came out of the ground, but their were no flames. And in the center of the spot was a naked man brushing himself off. The man looked like he was in his early twenties. Scars criss-crossed his torso, arms and legs. He looked up at Nanko and gave a grimace.
Don’t you know you should mind your own business kid.
Nanko was at first shocked at what he saw, now he was terrified. He began to take a few steps back.
Oh we can’t have that,
Banish this life from our reality
It was then that Nanko noticed that the man held a small black gem in his hand. Which was the last thing he saw before everything went black....
Tear this soul from our world
Cast him off into the River of Possibilities

And then I found myself here. When the Monk found me, he took me in to become his apprentice.
Why?
Um well... I can hear voices...Don’t look at me like that! I don’t mean like some crazy psycho. They're spirits which are called Gin. I only began hearing them when I got to this world. The Monk told me I was ‘Gifted’ and that I should use this special talent to become a great Monk of the Gin.
Nanko is really too young to take up the position of Advisor Monk, but his master was killed a few weeks ago. I can’t help, but think that he was murdered just so that he couldn’t help us with what happened here. said Sage while rubbing his chin.
That could be true. Now that we know where everyone is from and how they got here, let’s work on the problem on hand. Princess Mia has been murdered and we need to find out how. said Nanko as he studied his surroundings.
What are you looking for?
The tool that was used to kill her. The Gin tell me that there's no marks on her body so that indicated poison.
Is that how you knew to come here and that the princess was murdered?
Uh-huh.
Nanko walked over to a desk in the room. He picked up a open bottle and sniffed it.
This is it. It’s honey. I’m willing to bet the poison is in here. The Princess loved the taste of honey.
Couldn’t the Gin just tell you who killed the Princess? asked Mia.
The Gin aren’t all knowing. They don’t see what every person is doing in this whole palace all the time. But when something big happens, it usually gets their attention. Like you creating a tear to another world. That’s actually what got their attention. They didn’t know about the Princess being dead until they saw her with you.
Nanko gave the bottle a hard stare. Then he raised his head as if to listen to someone. His face turned slightly paler.
Are you sure? No no I don’t doubt you. said Nanko with a sigh.
What is it? asked Sage.
Theirs a powerful aura on this bottle that gives a clue of who gave it to the princess. But...
Well who. said Sage with a deathly cold tone.
We can’t determine exactly who’s it is, only that he wore one of the nine magical armors. The killer is one of the Princess’s own Royal Guard.
The Royal Guard? asked Mia.
The Princess has nine warriors who make up her Royal Guard that protect her. In your world they are the five Ronin Warriors and four Warlords. answered Nanko. Sage simply kept staring at the bottle with a face that looked like it was made out of ice. Completely without emotion.
Are you sure you can’t tell me who exactly it is? said Sage quietly.
Positive, maybe if I had more training I could possibly use mystical arts to find out the killer. But I’ve been training for only two years and haven’t learned enough yet. And the nearest experienced Monk is months away. said Nanko as he continued to look at the bottle.
You’ve told me more than what I knew before. That shall have to be good enough. said Sage as he began to pace.
He paced for several minutes and finally went up to Mia.
I need your help. said Sage simply while looking at Mia.
You...you want me to pretend to be the princess don’t you?
Sage says nothing.
So that the killer will try again....But I don’t know anything about this world. I don’t know your customs or traditions. And when the others of the Royal Guard meet me, they’ll know something funny is going on. What if someone asks me something about this world that I should know?
I think I know how to solve that problem. said Nanko as he placed the bottle back on the desk.
I know you have no reason to risk your life like this. But please help us... It could possibly be the only way we will be able to find the killer. And I will do all I can to make sure your life isn’t placed in danger. said Sage. He almost sounded like he was pleading. Sage never pleaded for anything. At least not the one in her world and something told her that this one has never pleaded for anything until now as well.
Ok.... I’ll help you. But you need to promise to help me get back home when this is over! said Mia.
Sage slowly nod.
What about the Princess’s family? asked Mia.
She has a cousin far from here, but thats her only relative. Her parents died when she was young.
Oh said Mia with disappoint. It would have been nice to see her parents alive. Even if they weren’t really hers.
We’ll need to hide the body. And get Mia dressed up. said Nanko as he opened the closet.
Oh and don’t forget to give her the Armor Bracelets.
Armor Bracelets? asked Mia.
Sage carefully took the bedsheet off the body. The Princess looked exactly like Mia. Mia couldn’t help but shiver at seeing a corpse that was her splitting image. Sage began taking off four bracelets that were on the body. One on each arm and leg. Then he walked over to Mia and handed them to her with great care.
Each Bracelet was silver with a sun symbol on them.
In our world their is a tenth armor. Called Armor of Heavenlight. These Bracelets will summon that armor...
Mia carefully placed each bracelet on.
*Click*
As she studied the bracelets and then the dress Nanko was holding, she couldn’t help but wonder what she was getting herself into...
