Part 5
A few hundred feet from the Ronins and Mia...
Nicholas ran back to the place he had left the Ronins as fear filled his heart. He was planning to go to the Condor building to get the others when he sensed that his stone spell had been broken, but couldn’t understand how it could happen. The only way it could happen was if someone took the badges off. But the demon soldier should have stopped anyone who would try that. Master Cane only allowed him to get one to help him, but one should have been more than enough to face off any humans that could have found the statues.
Nicholas slowed down when he saw six figures. Rage filled him as he saw that the five Ronins were flesh again. They seemed to be talking to a feminine figure dressed in silver.
I might be able to kill them now if I catch them unaware. This spell will probably kill me, but I’m as good as dead if Master Cane learns of my failure.
Nicholas quickly took his curved knife out and then took off his shirt. A pattern of scars covered his torso. While Dark Crystal could be used to cast spells involving dimension travel, any other kind of spell required EC Brothers to spill blood. It had taken a gallon of his blood to create the badges. He had barely survived...
Nicholas expertly slashed an X on his chest and then sat down. He placed his hands on the ground as his chest was dripping with blood.
Let Earth bend and break
Let Stone crack like glass
Let Dirt be cut and slashed
Till my enemies are swallowed by the ground itself
Life Blood I ask for your Power!
Before Nicholas lost consciousness he felt the earth tremble beneath him and he smiled.
Back to the Ronins and Mia...
“I always thought that Talpa’s armor was only split into nine armors. Why haven’t we heard of your armor?” asked Cye.
“Well um...”
All five Ronins had been assaulting her with questions for the last five minutes. Where had she come from? How did she get her armor? Did she know about the Dynasty World?
“Ok everyone stop!” shouted Mia which caused all the Ronins to shut up.
“Look, no offense but I really don’t know you guys. I was just walking in the woods when I saw you people in trouble. And I thought I should help. I don’t feel comfortable talking about my life story with five strangers.” says Mia as she crossed her fingers behind her back.
“Your right.” says Sage, “and we’re sorry to-”
*Crack*
Mia collapsed as she felt herself lose her balance. The ground that was once flat below her was now sloping downward. Each of the Ronins knew instantly what to do. Rowen took one of his arrows and stabbed it into the ground. He hung on to it to stop his sliding. Ryo and Sage did the same with their swords. Mia could see that she was sliding down to a large lava pit. She decided to follow the others example and got ready to stab her spear into the ground. Until she realized she didn’t have her spear.
Oh no! I never picked up my spear after doing that special technique. I really suck at this Ronin thing!!
She could already feel the heat of the lava as she was sliding down. Mia closed her eyes as she prepared to be dunked into the hot molten earth. She felt an arm grab her waist and easily stop her from going any further towards the pit. She opened her eyes to see Kento, who had his staff in the ground holding them in place.
“Relax Leono, I gotcha.” says Kento as he winked at her.
Cye simply shook his head as he watch Kento giving a goofy grin to the girl that was now in his arm.
Looks like Kento is having a nice time. Hate to spoil the moment, but I think it’s time to end this.
“Mind holding me in place for a sec Sage?”
Sage put one arm over Cye’s waist to stop him from sliding. Cye took his harpoon from out of the ground and aimed it at the lava pit below.
Super Wave Smasher
A beam of pure water shot out from the tip of the harpoon. As soon as it hit the lava, a cloud of steam engulfed everyone. The lava was now simply harmless dirt.
The Ronins began climbing up the slope to leveled ground.
“Get on my back, I’ve climbed mountains that are harder than this.” says Kento with a grin.
Mia complied, even though she felt a little nervous. His muscles seemed to tense up at first when she got on his back and then relax. Then with a grunt he began climbing. She watched from behind his shoulder as Kento expertly found the right handholds to grab. Even though they were the farthest from the top, they ended up being the first to reach it. Mia quickly got off Kento’s back when they reached ground that she could actually stand on. Kento kept giving her a goofy grin.
Uhoh, I’ve seen Kento give that grin before. But take care of one thing at a time Mia.
Mia looked around and found her spear fifteen feet away. She quickly went over to pick it up. It was then that she realized that the five badges she was holding were gone from her hand.
They must have fallen into the lava pit. Well good riddance I say.
“Well guys, it’s been exciting, but I think I’ll go home now. Seeya.” said Mia as she made a move to leave.
“Hey will we see you again?” asked Kento with hope in his eyes.
The other Ronins had the same question written on their faces.
“Something tells me we’ll meet again.” says Mia with a smile.
“You know we could spar sometime. I could show you a few fighting techniques you might not know.” says Kento as he stepped closer.
“It would be nice to have someone as pretty as you to fight with.” says Sage. Kento gave him a glare of pure anger.
Considering the fact that I don’t know ANY fighting techniques, you could probably show me a lot of them.
“Um maybe. We’ll see.” says Mia as she backs away. She could tell that both Kento and Sage were flirting. And right now she just couldn’t deal with their flirting. Her life was getting way to complicated as it is.
Mia quickly began to run east. She looked behind her shoulder and sighed with relief when it appeared that they weren’t going to follow. When she ran for a good five minutes she stopped. She took off her circlet which produced a flash of light. And then their was just ordinary Mia with her ordinary shirt and jeans. She quickly headed for the mansion because she wanted to get there before the guys.
At the mansion...
Nanko was watching TV. It had been a long time since he saw a game show.
*Creak*
Nanko took a glance at the door to see Mia who was huffing and puffing from a lot of running.
“Why did *huff* leave me *huff* to talk to the *huff* guys when they became normal.”
“It would have looked suspicious if I was there with you. It might have given them a clue of who you really were. Besides Jeopardy was coming on.”
“Why didn’t they *huff* recognize *huff* me?” said Mia as she tried to get words out between deep breaths.
“I’ll explain that later. I can see the guys on the front yard through the window. You better get your breathing under control.”
Mia quickly took a seat on a chair and took a newspaper. She tried to slow her breathing as she heard the door open.
“Hi honey, we’re home!”
“Anything good on the tube?”
“Jeopardy, so how did the fraternity thing go?” asked Nanko as he looked over to the guys.
“You know the usual. Turned out to be a giant trap where we got into a major battle.” says Rowen with a grin.
“Huh?” said Mia as she kept the newspaper over her face. She wasn’t sure how well she would be able to control her facial expressions.
The Ronins went into a detailed story of their experience with Nicholas and the demon soldier. Then they began talking about meeting Leono and the giant lava pit that appeared.
“You know Kento, I thought you would be more upset that we didn’t meet the dream team.” says Cye as he took a cup of tea. Ryo gave him a look to shut up.
“Dream team? If this has anything to do with the people who invited you in, you better spill. My curiosity is killing me.” says Mia.
Not to mention my curiosity about that nearly did kill me.
“Oh come on Ryo, she’s going to find out later anyway. The people who invited us in the fraternity were five girls who I must say looked liked they could have their pick of any guy on the campus.” says Sage.
“That figures. All some evil villain has to do is hang a bunch of girls in front of your faces to get your hormones up. Then release the trap. Nice to know that the Ronins are a bunch of sexist pigs with dog brains.” mutters Mia as she continued to pretend to read the paper.
Kento mouthed a ‘told you so’ which brought about a few snickers.
The truth was Mia wasn’t upset at what the guys did as much as she was upset at how silly the big secret was.
I nearly get my head smashed by a demon soldier and almost fall into a pit of lava because I wanted to find out the big secret! Which turned out to be that!? Ugh!
Mia took some tea to try to calm down her nerves.
“Well I’m over those girls. Now I have my eyes set for only one pretty face- Leono!” says Kento.
*Spit! Cough! Hack!*
Mia made quite a few inhuman noises as she sprayed her tea all over the newspaper. Nanko and Ryo were beside her in a second and patting her back.
“It must have went down the wrong pipe.” says Nanko as he tried to use all his will power not to grin.
“Are you ok?” asked Ryo as he gave her a napkin.
Mia nod and started to wipe at the tea on her clothes. She didn’t trust herself to use her voice at the moment.
“And I want you to cut it out with the flirting Sage. She’s interested in me.” says Kento as he glared at Sage.
“The only words I heard her say to you were ‘maybe’ and ‘we’ll see’ which hardly means that she’s interested in you.” said Sage as he returned Kento’s glare with one of his own.
“Neither one of you should get your hopes up. I don’t think Leono is her real name even.” says Rowen.
Mia tried all she could to keep her facial expression neutral.
“What makes you say that?” asked Ryo as he returned to his seat.
“It’s just the way she hesitated when she said it. Like she was just saying the first name that popped into her head.”
Theirs no way I can fool Rowen. With his high IQ, he’ll be able to figure it’s me in no time.
“And I don’t think she’s very battle experienced. She didn’t handle herself well when that pit of lava appeared.”
Mia tried not to turn red from the criticism of Rowen’s comment.
“Perhaps a more important subject to discuss is what we are going to do next.” says Cye. Mia was thankful for the change in subject.
“Well we know that they live in the Condor building.” says Rowen thoughtfully.
“So let’s go there tomorrow and pay them a visit.” says Ryo with a grin.
Back at Kiwie Woods...
The forest ranger received a call about smoke being sighted in the woods. He had been walking in the woods for an hour now and saw no sign of a fire.
“Stupid prank calls.” muttered the ranger as he turned around. He paused as he notice something in the corner of his eye. Somebody was lying on the ground, partial covered by bushes.
As the ranger approached the body he could see a lot of blood all over the grass. He quickly turned the man face up and covered the huge wound on his chest with his jacket. He felt for a pulse. And found one.
“We need a medical team in Kiwie Woods ASAP.” says the ranger as he turned on his hand radio.
